Rescue
At HTH we recieve a dozen calls daily seeking shelter for injured animals like Dogs, Cats and even Lifestock. We wish to help all such animals and consider them our main priority. HTH is foremost a shelter for injured and sick animals.
We rescue animals from unfortunate situations and provide them with necessary medical and rehabilitation care that they require. We work to find them well matched, carefully screened well-matched homes. The foundation was started by Ms. Anamika Chowdhury who has been into rescuing and feeding animals from past 20+ years. Currently there are around 300+ animals under her care at the shelter. Earlier she used to care for animals in her Navi Mumbai Apartment, but due to increasing number of rescues she had to rent out a farmhouse near Karnala, Panvel.
At HTH we recieve a dozen calls daily seeking shelter for injured animals like Dogs, Cats and even Lifestock. We wish to help all such animals and consider them our main priority. HTH is foremost a shelter for injured and sick animals.
We give such animals a comfortable shelter, proper medical treatment, medicine and most importantly love. We also conduct regular adoption camps.
HTH believes that helping and caring for stray animals on a large scale is only possible through public participation. For this we try to conduct medical workshops for activists and volunteers and organize fund raisers. We also support community feeders and encourage people to take up feeding of strays in their localities. We have also started an operation theatre to neuter/spay and help our community animals live a better life.
2017
We started rescuing and taking in animals in our 3 Bedroom Apartment in Navi Mumbai. It all started with rescuing animals from extremely cruel conditions.
2018
We decided to move out and rent a farmhouse near karnala. We will always be grateful of Sagar Savla, Aditi Parameshwaran, Pooja Teli, Sangeeta Sharma and Benaifer Vikramsay who helped us in raising funds and in building the sheds. We would also like to extent our deepest gratitude towards Deepa Talib who helped us in our journey. Since then HTH has been a home for injured and sick animals.
2019
Team HTH visited the airport site to see an apocalyptic situation. Scared animals running around exposed live electric wires and dangerous rubble. The conditions at the site were first reported by Activist Arati Chauhan.
2020
Due to increasing number of animals we decided to shift to a bigger place. A big thank you to Bhumi Jeevdaya Samvardhan Trust, Mr. Hemant & Supriya Sapre, Vinita Kulkarni, Uma Dogra & Darshan Patel who stood by us during the pandemic. We also registered Hands That Heal as Hands That Heal Animal Care Foundation (Reg No. E-1362)
2021
It had become imperative to build an operation theatre for the animals to conduct sterilization and other surgeries; this has always been our main goal.
2022
We extended the dog shelter by building multiple rooms inside the shelter area for emergency cases. A big thank you to PriyaMitra Foundation and Mrs. Rupal Pillai for their constant support in understanding the plight of these rescued animals. We also built a puppy room for adolescent dogs.
As is expected, many ask me - why do I do this? There is not one answer but hundreds, after my very first dog rescue and falling in love with her, I found a calling. Seeing the innocence in these animals and the unconditional love they have to offer, I can only say that they are more than just rescues, they are family to me.
Taking care of such a large family also is a huge task and I do it with all my heart. Funds are always tight and we have to keep managing but I, my staff and a small group of well-wishers and my human family keep this proverbial Arc afloat.
